the original 2015 graphic novel is more insane than the movie cuz like
exhibit A: nimona expresses liking pizza and ballister at first refuses her asking to order in because the delivery to his mindfuck nowhere lair is expensive . later, when an accident happens and nimona gets upset, he remembers that she liked pizza and offers to order in . if that isnt dad behavior idk what that is (im fatherless)
exhibit B :
they went to a science expo slash carnival . they went undercover . a stand seller mistakes them for a father & son and they just… went with it . he carries nimona around . what the fuck man

ballister freaks the FUCK out when she gets injured way more than he did in the movie and then proceeds to play board games with her to cheer her up

the craziest of them all . near the end at the final battle when nimona turns into the big ass dark dragon-axolotl monster, in the graphic novel she actually splits into two, the part of her thats gone off the edge (the monster) and the part of her thats the scared little girl she once was . the backstory in the novel is also a lot different than in the movie :

Two things I haven’t yet seen anyone discuss about Nimona:
For a thousand years, the kingdom was protecting against something that not only wasn’t a threat, but that lived within their city that whole time. They didn’t know she was there, of course, but she was. They built a wall to keep the monsters out, but the one who was there at the beginning was inside the wall the whole time. Kind of like how queer people have been here the whole time, just living their lives and quietly existing.
The kingdom is terrified of what’s beyond the wall. All of them are. The director talks about how she has a recurring dream about the wall failing and the monsters flooding in. And then the wall gets broken down, and….. there’s no monsters beyond the wall. There’s just lush rolling hills and a winding river. They cut themselves off from the rest of the world for a millennia, but the monsters they feared so terribly weren’t even out there.
i was talking with a friend and i mentioned the term “pillow princess”, and we started talking about like. opposite terms. what i meant by that was more along the lines of “service top”, but he took that to mean just like, the boy version.
he just started dropping names: blanket boy, duvet dude, mattress man. fitted sheet fucker. boxspring boy. headboard hunk. he just kept GOING
